Faith Leader Collaboration

Partnering with Faith Leaders Trained in Mental Health to Provide Integrated Spiritual and Psychological Support

Understanding How People Make Sense of Their Difficulties

People understand their mental health struggles through diverse lenses. Across many communities, individuals may attribute their difficulties to psychological factors, spiritual causes, life circumstances, or a combination of all three. For those who would value it, our service can bridge the gap between spiritual and psychological support—offering care that honours both dimensions.

Optional Faith-Integrated Support

We recognise that everyone's needs are different. Some clients prefer a standard psychological approach; others want their faith to be central to their healing. We offer flexible, tailored options based on your preferences, including partnerships with faith leaders trained in mental health awareness.

A Specific Model: Muslim Faith Leader Collaboration

Based on my research and clinical experience working with Muslim communities, I've developed a particular approach that may serve as a helpful model. Research shows that within Muslim communities specifically, many individuals hold dual explanatory models—embracing both spiritual and psychological understandings simultaneously—yet often feel they must choose between seeking spiritual help OR professional support.

Our Muslim Faith Leader Collaboration Offers:

Joint Faith-Psychology Sessions

For those who would find it helpful, collaborative sessions bringing together a psychologist and faith leader trained in mental health. This could include dual assessments exploring difficulties from psychological, social, and spiritual perspectives; shared formulations that make sense within your worldview; and integrated sessions combining evidence-based psychological techniques with Islamic guidance.

Imam Referral Network

Access to a network of vetted Imams, Male & Female Islamic Scholars, and faith leaders trained in mental health awareness. This includes trusted referrals, guidance on authentic Ruqyah practitioners, and connections to appropriate spiritual support alongside psychological care.

Collaborative Care Planning

Coordinated care between professionals who communicate and work together. This could include unified approaches with your psychologist and faith leader, holistic goals addressing psychological and spiritual wellbeing, and family involvement where appropriate.

Spiritual Integration Support

For those wanting to explore the spiritual dimensions of their healing. This could include Islamic psychoeducation exploring concepts such as the nafs, qalb, and ruh; guidance on spiritual practices for wellbeing; support making sense of suffering through an Islamic lens; and a safe space to discuss metaphysical concerns without dismissal.

Your Choice, Your Journey

  1. Standard psychological support: Therapy using evidence-based approaches

  2. Faith-sensitive therapy: A psychologist who understands and respects your Islamic worldview

  3. Fully integrated support: Joint sessions, collaborative care, and spiritual integration

Simply let us know your preferences—there's no pressure to decide upfront.
